More than a year has passed since the arrival of COVID-19 in South Africa. Our lives have been disrupted with lockdowns, regulations and “the new normal”.
We have survived two waves of onslaught with many of us losing loved ones along the way. The next phase in this illness has finally arrived: the vaccine.
The South African Government has a three-phase approach to vaccinating the public.
Phase 1: Front line healthcare workers
Phase 2: Essential workers, persons in congregate settings, persons over 60-years and persons over 18-years with co-morbidities
Phase 3: The final phase will target 22,5 million members of the population over the age of 18-years.
We have currently started Phase two, with people over the age of 60 years old being encouraged to register online for vaccination.
We, as the Howick Medical Centre Doctors, encourage all people over the age of 60 to register on the online portal.
